Today we got our silly on.
And it was glorious.
A double batch of green play dough and some silly monster lips, eyes, noses, and ears was all these little girls needed…
They placed their face parts in their dough just how they pleased…
With such focus and concentration…
Al’ of them busy and quiet, until they saw what they had created…
And then the silly rumpus began in earnest…
Oh, but we had fun!
Our Most Trusted Play Dough Recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar (you can use alum if you cannot find cream of tartar)
1 Tbsp oil
1 cup water
Food colouring or powdered tempera paint
*Mix all the dry ingredients together in a medium saucepan. Place on burner on medium heat. Add water, oil, and colour. Mix well. Stir as the dough cooks. When the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the pot and is no longer slimy, it is ready! Dump the play dough the counter to cool. Knead and make soft.
*This activity used a double batch of the above recipe.
You may be wondering where I found these silly little monster face pieces. Well, I found them at our thrift store, but you can use Mr. Potato Head pieces like the Happy Hooligans did! They will work too!
Yes, the smalls are learning eye-hand coordination, small motor skills, focus, concentrations, parts of the face and where they belong, but the most important thing we learned today? Well…
…to have fun, make lots of noise, and above all…
